Incentives
|
As a new recruit you will be eligible for the following incentives:
Incentives
All participants will be given the option of receiving a lump sum recruitment
or relocation bonus in the amount of $5,000. These bonuses will be paid immediately
after the participant comes on board with the Office of Environmental Management
(EM). Employees who receive either of these incentives incur a service obligation.
Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP)
In accordance with federal regulations, EM policies that govern SLRP and, provided
that funding is available, EMPDC participants may be eligible to receive a maximum
of $10,000 per year (not to exceed a total of $20,000) during the developmental
period for repayment of federally insured student loans that were incurred during
his/her pursuit of his/her most recent degree earned. Payments of college loans
after completion of the program will be on a case-by-case basis. Employees who receive
a student loan repayment incur a service obligation.
Paid Advanced Education
EMPDC participants may be eligible for up to 12 months (two semesters or equivalent)
full-time, or the part-time equivalent, of paid graduate level study. In the event
the participant and his/her management decide that the participant’s graduate studies
will be full-time during duty hours, the participant will maintain full-time employment
status during the graduate study phase of the EMPDC and therefore will receive his/her
full salary.
Accelerated Promotion
Each participant will be eligible to receive a promotion after his/her first six
months of employment as opposed to the one year time in grade other GS employees are
required to complete before becoming eligible for promotion. To meet the requirements,
a participant must be recommended by his/her official supervisor after receiving
input from other EM supervisors/managers that have had an opportunity to work with
the participant. In addition, participants must have completed the basic requirements
such as completing the initial orientation, implementing an individual development
plan, successfully completing all training that was specified to take place in that
initial six months and the participant has served in a full-time work capacity during
the initial six months.
Mentoring
Each participant will be assigned a mentor. Usually, the mentor will be an individual
within the EM community that has substantial years of experience or is one that
has excelled professionally and/or has demonstrated excellent mentor qualities.
Some of these qualities may include characteristics such as having an excellent
working knowledge of his/her work area and the EM program, demonstrates cooperativeness
and has a willingness to share information, a willingness to take time out of his/her
busy schedule to assist co-workers, knows the surrounding environment, does not
shy away from making recommendations, and able to provide sound advice from a professional
standpoint. Nevertheless, although serving as a mentor is a volunteer assignment,
all mentors will be required to take a course in mentoring before, or as soon as
possible, after being appointed.
Paid Relocation Expenses for New Employees
For certain positions, some relocation expenses may be authorized. Such determinations
are made on a case-by-case basis. Employees receiving relocation expenses incur
a service obligation.
