Purpose
In pursuit of accomplishing one of our country’s most important missions, we
Environmental Management (EM) must be absolute in knowing that there is more
than an adequate pool of talent in the pipeline to continue, without
interruption, our drive to accomplish our mission. That being said, the purpose
for the EM Professional Development Corps (EMPDC) is to ensure that EM does not
experience any deficiencies in mission critical skills, knowledge and/or
expertise.
Overview
Our EMPDC is designed to provide a continuing source of highly competent
personnel with the skills and knowledge to meet our current and
future staffing needs. Our program also affords us the ability to
assess, develop and nurture our potential to serve as future leaders
and managers within EM, the Department of Energy and the Federal government.
Program Description
The EMPDC is designed to attract college graduates and other candidates who
will undergo a structured developmental program for a period of two years. The
EMPDC will consist of general and specific training activities; rotational
assignments and experiences in a variety of functional programs and
program support areas at various Headquarters, Field or Area Offices,
Laboratories, and/or Contractor organizations. After successful completion of
the 2 year program and post non-competitive conversion, one year of graduate
level study will be available to EMPDC participants for study in a specialty
area that is tailored to meet the demands of the participants assigned permanent
duty station.
